Jiàn zì rú wù zì rúqí rén

[then see] characters are like other people.

 

CEDict translates this as  “to meet”. Not exactly: And shouwen jiezi agrees with me!

朙也。晤旳晄曠四篆不必專謂日之明。然莫明于日。故四字皆从日而廁于此也。晤者、启之明也。心部之悟、㝱部之寤皆訓覺。覺亦明也。同聲之義必相近。从日。吾聲。

 

照也。

One must not translate the character in isolation, but rather must consider its complete context, both decomposing the character into its constituent elements and also looking at the character in the sentence, indeed paragraph where it occurs.
