We are probably not alone but also probably hundreds of light years at least from the nearest advanced civilization so it would be communication with uh oh about a 500 year time lag presuming light speed in fact is the max speed possible. That means when we finally find each other we would have to wait hundreds of years for a reply. It would be like talking with a 500+ year lag between messages.
so yeah, we might not be alone. but guess what, they might be so far away it is the same thing as if they were, barring some breakthrough in our understanding of physics which would allow us to bend space-time we’re probably fucked, just not the way we usually think.
