U.S. Constitutional status of International Law

Read Medellin, first the syllabus. The entire decision is 90 pages.
http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/07pdf/06-984.pdf

Then read the Massachussets Burma case
http://docs.google.com/gview?url=http://docs.justia.com/cases/supreme/530/363.pdf&chrome=true

Then read the parts of Medellin which interest you most: try to figure out if the decisions are contradictory or not, and if so where and why.

There is an earlier case like Medellin, LaGrand

Those opinions are completely optional though they give us good background.

I will prepare a powerpoint slideshow to present other comments on the U.S. constitution and its relation to international law. It will be posted as a comment here, probably by monday. It will be lectured in class, you don’t Have to read it though if you have it to follow along as I lecture it will be easier for you to understand and you will learn more.

(Medellin is also linked from an earlier post).
